British Columbia

British Columbia

British Columbia ’s Great Bear Rainforest is one of the world’s last remaining temperate rainforests, with misty fjords, ancient cedar trees, and pristine rivers teeming with life. It is home to the iconic spirit bear, a rare white-coated black bear found only in this region. Considered sacred by Indigenous communities, this bear is an incredibly special subject for any wildlife photographer.

The Great Bear Rainforest is also home to an abundance of grizzly bears and black bears, particularly in the fall when they gather along salmon-filled rivers. Elusive coastal wolves also roam the shores and are occasionally seen. Along the coastline, marine life thrives, providing opportunities to humpback whales breaching and bubble net feeding, orcas, sea otters, and sea lions.

Bald eagles can be photographed soaring over the water or perched against a backdrop of misty fjords. The region’s estuaries and mudflats attract shorebirds, including western sandpipers, dunlins, and black oystercatchers.

Excursions to a First Nations village offer visitors a chance to connect with the deep Indigenous heritage of the region.

You can explore this rugged coastline on a liveaboard boat or stay at a charming floating lodge, accessible only by floatplane.
