The islands of Borneo and Sumatra are home to orangutans, pygmy elephants, proboscis monkeys, sun bears, and even the elusive clouded leopard. Undoubtedly, the opportunity to photograph orangutans in the wild is the highlight of a photo safari here. However, this region also presents chances to capture the smallest subspecies of elephant in the world, proboscis monkeys that are known for their long noses and potbellies, rescued sunbears that are being rehabilitated for release to the wild, and so much more. Travel in this region feels reminiscent of old-world adventure as you cruise black water rivers while listening to the duet of gibbons, walk canopy bridges through primary rainforest, and search by spotlight for strange nocturnal animals such as flying lemurs and tarsiers.
Our team partners with conservationists to find and photograph orangutans, as well as a captive breeding center that presents opportunities to photograph critically endangered Sumatran rhinos. Excursions to Komodo take you up close to the legendary Komodo dragons, the largest lizards on earth.
